TRAINING: During the height of the season, I like to try to play various safari type layouts on my home course in order to prepare myself for the different holes I will come upon during tournament play. I also try to be serious when playing casual rounds, hoping that my mentality will carry over to more meaningful rounds.
HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A TOURNAMENT?
I try to stay relaxed and focus. I like to at least walk the course/courses before the tournament begins to familiarize myself with the holes. If I have more time, I will usually throw two or three drives on each hole too, just to get my distance dialed in on most of the holes, especially the deceptive ones.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE TOURNAMENTS?
1. The Vibram Open
2. Any Dynamic Discs Tourney
3. Any tourney in Iowa because the courses there are ridiculous and I love to compete against all of the pros in Iowa who are some of the best guys I've met in my short disc golf career.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 FAVORITE COURSES?
1. Maple Hill
2. Ozark Mountain
3. Sioux Passage
PET PEEVES: People who flip out when something doesn't go their way. There is no reason, other than having very little self control, that someone should lose their minds on the course during a tournament. Nine times out of ten, a temper tantrum will affect other players on the card in a negative way.
PERSONAL DISC GOLF GOALS: My personal disc golf goals have changed a lot now that I am back in school as a full time student. I am more focused on school at the time being, but I will be trying to play as many tourneys and have as much fun doing so as I possibly can, come next summer. I would love to be more consistent and break the 1000 rated player mark.
ROLE MODELS/INFLUENCES:
Eric McCabe is someone I really look up to. He has a great work ethic when it comes to disc golf. He is a great human being, has an awesome sense of humor, and has been a close friend who I feel comfortable talking to about my game and other things as well. He also is a World Champion and has a dog named Ralph.
ADVICE: Practice putting, it is probably the most crucial part of becoming a better disc golfer.
