Ricky Wysocki in the bag analysis | Early 2023

    March 1, 2023
Ricky Wysocki in the bag analysis | Early 2023

2x World Champion Ricky Wysocki is feeling confident with his bag heading into the 2023 season after a dominant season on the Disc Golf Pro Tour in 2022. We caught up with him for a quick practice round at Vista Del Camino in Scottsdale, Arizona and got an inside look at what’s in his bag.

Check out the video version linked at the bottom!

    Distance Drivers

    Dynamic Discs Raider

Ricky carries three molds for distance drivers, and the least overstable of them is the Dynamic Discs Raider. This might surprise some as most players usually consider the Raider a straight to overstable disc. Still, with Ricky Wysocki’s arm speed, they fly how most players would expect something like a Trespass to fly. And with his formidable forehand power, Ricky doesn’t have to rely on as many understable discs. Instead, he uses the Raider mainly for flex shots where he can throw them flat and let them work to the right but still be confident they’ll have the fade at the end of their flight to avoid accidental cut-rollers.

    Latitude 64° Rive

Probably Ricky’s most used mold for distance drivers is the Latitude 64° Rive. The Rive is quite overstable but still has a good amount of glide. Ricky has one in Orbit plastic that’s a little more beat-in and usually used for maximum distance. He also carries one in the Raptor-eye plastic that’s newer and more overstable. Ricky uses the Raptor-Eye for most backhands that will hold a hyzer but still get good distance and glide. And he has a few tan-colored Rives that he uses specifically for distance forehands.

    Dynamic Discs Enforcer

Rounding out his distance driver lineup Ricky carries a Dynamic Discs Enforcer in the Lucid-X plastic. Dynamic Discs released these early in the year with the Sockibomb Stamp, and these are very overstable. Ricky uses these for maximum control with the speed of a distance driver. These are also reliable for any windy conditions or big skip shots he needs.

    Fairway Drivers

    Fuzion Orbit Felons

Ricky is known for his incredible control when throwing the Dynamic Discs Felon. This disc is perfect for Ricky’s game because it can handle power and always provides a controllable flight. He carries two Fuzion Felons, one with the Orbit pattern and another with the Raptor Eye pattern. These Felons offer a lot of control and surprisingly straight flight when thrown with Ricky’s power. Ricky also carries two Lucid-Ice Glimmer Felons, which can almost be considered a different disc than the Fuzion. This run of Felons has a much higher dome and much more stability. Ricky uses these to fight the wind and for spike hyzers when accuracy is critical. At Vista, Ricky also demonstrated using these Felons for forehand approaches because he can throw them with anhyzer and know that they will fight out of it and finish back to the right.

    Lucid Evaders

Another Fairway driver that fills a gap in Ricky’s bag is the Evader. Ricky throws a white Prototype stamped Lucid Evader. When comparing his Evader to his Fuzion Felons, he says the Evader has much more glide and a much straighter flight.

    Lucid Vandals

Rollers have always been an essential part of Ricky’s game. His current favorite roller disc is the Dynamic Discs Lucid Vandal. At Vista, he started his roller on a left-sloping side hill which would cause most rollers to hold the cut angle and finish well left of their target. But for Ricky, the Vandal rode the hill at the perfect angle and finished to the right.

    Midranges

    Supreme Fugitive

This year, Ricky is carrying three midranges in his bag. The most overstable was an upcoming release from Dynamic Discs, the Supreme Fugitive. The Supreme Fugitive appears to be one notch more overstable than the Dynamic Discs Verdict, but with a rim that feels more similar to the Justice. But any concerns about a Justice-like flight were shattered as Ricky threw this overstable midrange over a 300’ water carry and landed safe by at least fifty feet. This disc looks to have enough high-speed stability that even Ricky wasn’t concerned with turning it over, but still enough glide to be incredibly useful for all players.

    Royal Grand Trust

The next midrange Ricky shared was Albert Tamm’s tour series Latitude 64° Orbit Trust. Ricky describes the Trust as useful for straight shots. “If I wanna throw it on a little more hyzer, pop up to flat, and just glide, this Trust is what I’m gonna grab.” Unfortunately, after posting Ricky’s In The Bag video, we learned that Albert’s 2023 tour series disc hadn’t been announced yet, so we will do our best to act surprised with everyone else when it drops.

    Latitude 64 Compass

The final midrange in Ricky’s bag is a callback to his days as part of team Latitude 64°, the Gold Line Compass. This Compass is quite beat-in, so Ricky describes it as useful in a tailwind for a similar shot to his Trust.

    Putters/Approach Discs

    Sockibomb Slammer

Ricky’s favorite disc in his bag right now is his Dynamic Discs Sockibomb Slammer in the Classic Supreme plastic. He describes upshots as “the most important part of the game” and the Sockibomb Slammer as “such a consistent disc for distance control, angle control, all that.” Ricky seemed to like to throw the Sockibomb slammer on any angle, from pure hyzers that skip up to the pin or anhyzer flexes that spike in and settle close. Over the 2022 season, Ricky has thoroughly demonstrated the utility of his favorite disc, the Sockibomb Slammer.

    Westside Discs Harp

Besides the Sockibomb Slammer, Ricky still bags at least one Westside Discs BT Hard Harp. For years Ricky has been known for throwing the Harp for approaches on just about any shot shape he needs. At Vista, he demonstrated a forehand anhyzer approach with his Harp from around three hundred away, and of course, he parked it.

    Emac Judge

The final approach disc in Ricky’s bag is a Dynamic Discs Lucid Emac Judge. He describes this disc as “glidey” and “Fast” compared to the Judge. As a demonstration, he threw it as an approach with a flat release angle. It flew almost perfectly straight with a gentle landing.

    Latitude 64 Daggers

While we didn’t talk to Ricky about his putters at Vista, we did later off-camera at his house and can confirm he is still putting with Latitude 64° Sense Daggers. If you haven’t heard of the Sense plastic, it’s what Latitude is making their Royal Line putters out of, so it’s a step up in quality over their standard Zero Hard plastic. Ricky loves the Dagger for its incredible glide, stability under power, and beaded feel for a consistent release. We played horse in his backyard putting setup, and even when putting on Marksman baskets, Ricky was still draining putts from just about anywhere.

    Summary

And those are all the discs that were in Ricky’s bag! For this round, he was carrying a Dynamic Discs Combat Ranger with his Sockibomb print. But on tour, Ricky is known for pulling a cart, so that was likely just an off-season setup. If you’d like to check out Ricky’s throws for yourself on video, we also published a video In The Bag on the Dynamic Discs Youtube channel!
