When I have the opportunity to give clinics and share the sport with new players, I stress to KEEP IT SIMPLE. We all start somewhere, so learn the fundamentals and then repeat, repeat! Start with neutral putters and midranges, as they are easier to throw. The more you play, the more everything will come together, like timing and mechanics. Take your discs to an open field and practice different shots and angles. You will learn more about your game this way versus only throwing on a course. Join a league or start with others! You'll be more likely to stick with it.
I, luckily, have so many wonderful, memorable disc golf moments! Two memories stand out to me in my disc golf career.
1) 2016 PDGA Professional Disc Golf Worlds. It was the first year I had been a part of the disc golf scene and served as the Volunteer Coordinator. I made several friendships and disc golf relationships at the event, many of which still stand today. It was when I knew I wanted to continue to be a part of the DG community.
2) The Inaugural Emporia Ladies Open. In 2019, Denise Cameron (PDGA #41459) and I decided to host a disc golf exclusive to women. We spent so much time working to create a safe, welcoming experience for ladies of all ages and skills. My heart was full when we had 70 women compete! Since then, I have made an effort to do more for women in the sport of disc golf. It opened the door to a passion I never knew was there. #ThrowLikeAGirl
There are several passionate, genuine people on Team Dynamic Discs. Many of them do so much for the sport, such as giving clinics, creating YouTube content, promoting at local events, etc. They do more than just compete in disc golf, many give back by positively sharing the sport. The people who make up the team are pretty special.
Long distances, light winds, or tailwind shots. The Grace made it into my bag almost immediately. It has a neutral flight and great glide, which is perfect for a gal who needs a little extra distance! I love that I can throw it at any level of power and get it to work for the shot I need.
Long distances, headwind shots, and forehand shots. This disc has been a go-to for me for a long time when it comes to needing a forehand shot, or when I have a headwind. It works nicely for me as an overstable disc since I don't have a big arm.
SECOND FAVE DISC. I've bagged a Saint since I started playing. It works wonders on a hyzer flip. Not so overstable I can't throw it longer distances, but not too undrestable so I can put a little more on it and get a good flight out of the disc. It also works nicely for slow, smooth forehands. Very versatile disc for me!
